HEY PARENTS!
Here's how your child obtains their license...
SEGMENT 1 - DRIVER EDUCATION

Classroom - 24 hours - must have minimum score of 70% on Segment One Test

Behind the wheel training with instructor - 6 hours.
LEVEL 1 LICENSE (LEARNER’S LICENSE)

Take your certificate of completion, the one we issue you at the end of class, to the Secretary of State Office with your birth certificate, or passport, immigration card or other legal piece of identification, whatever you choose to take it must be an original, no copies or faxes. If certificate of completion is lost, there is a $20 fee.

Pass a vision test and answer certain health questions at S.O.S office.

A parent or legal guardian must sign for you at the S.O.S office.

S.O.S will send you your permit license with restrictions.
SEGMENT 2 - DRIVER EDUCATION

Must have a valid Level 1 License for at least 3 months.

Must have completed 30 hours of driving with (2 hours of which must be at night) with a parent or licensed driver over 21 years of age, this person must be designated by parent.

At the end of segment 2, you will receive a certificate of completion to drop the permit restrictions.
ROAD TEST

Third party examiner - by appointment only

TO TAKE THE ROAD TEST YOU MUST:

Passed Segment 2 Driver Education, received a white certificate issued by CAP Driving School.

Have a Level 1 Learner’s License for at least 6 months.

Be accompanied by parent or legal guardian.

Verify that you have 50 hours of practice driving with at least 10 hours at night.

Provide a vehicle in a safe working condition.

Show proof of valid vehicle registration and proof of insurance.

Have no convictions, civil infractions, license suspensions, or at-fault accidents for the 90 days immediately prior to the test.
LEVEL 2 LICENSE

May not drive between the hours of midnight and 5am unless driving to or from work with a parent or a licensed driver over the age of 21 designated by your parent.

Must be at least 16 years old.

Must have passed the road test.

Have had your Level 1 Learner’s License for at least 6 months.
LEVEL 3 LICENSE (NO RESTRICTIONS)

Be at least 17 years old.

Have a valid Level 2 License for at least 6 months.

Have no moving violations, no license suspensions, no at-fault that resulted in a moving violation or no violation of the graduated license restriction for 12 consecutive months.
